Starbucks Gingerbread Loaf Recipe
TRADITIONAL SPICE CAKE TOPPED OFF WITH A DELECTABLE ORANGE-FLAVORED CREAM CHEESE ICING, AND CROWNED WITH CANDIED ORANGE PEEL OR GINGER.
Cake
1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
1 teaspoon ground cloves
21/4 teaspoons ground ginger
1 teaspoon salt
8 tablespoons (1/2 stick) butter, softened
1 cup granulated sugar
1 teaspoon orange extract
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 cup applesauce
Frosting
One 8-ounce package cream cheese, softened
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1/2 teaspoon orange extract
21/2 cups confectioners' sugar
Candied orange peel or candied ginger, for garnish
1. Preheat the oven to 350°F Grease and Hour a 9 by 5-inch loaf pan.
2. To make the cake, in a medium bowl, mix together the flour, cinnamon, cloves, ginger, and salt. Set aside.
3. In a large bowl, cream the butter and granulated sugar until Huffy Stir in the orange extract.
4. Mix the baking soda into the applesauce and stir info the creamed butter mixture. Add the flour mixture. Mix until smooth in an electric mixer. 2 to 3 minutes.
5. Pour the batter into the prepared loaf pan.
6. Bake about 40 to 50 minutes until a toothpick inserted in the center of the cake comes out clean. Transfer the cake to a rack and let cool completely.
7. To make the frosting, beat the cream cheese until Huffy Beat in the van ilk and orange extracts. Slowly beat in the confectioner’s sugar.
8. Once the cake has cooled, remove from the pan by placing a large cake plate over the pan and flipping it over. Spread the frosting evenly on top. Adorn with the candied ginger or the chopped candied orange peel.
